Cuando el ebook de Amazon salió hace unos días, inmediatamente los analistas dudaron de que estuviéramos en presencia de un nuevo fenómeno tipo iPod, que se transformó en un referente cultural de la década.
Existía el precedente de otros dispositivos similares desarrollados por Sony, iRex Technologies y otros, que no fueron particularmente exitosos. De hecho hace más de una década que se viene hablando de libros electrónicos, tablets y papeles digitales.
Sin embargo, este reproductor de libros electrónicos se agotó sólo en 6 horas y no volverá a estar disponible hasta después de la navidad, y Amazon tiene una larga lista de compradores esperando a que les llegue el juguete.
Es tanto el frenesí del Kindle que se vende a 399 dólares oficialmente, pero que pocos han obtenido, que en eBay hace 20 minutos una subasta había superado los 1000 dólares por un Kindle Amazon nuevo y sellado.
En general no bajan de 700 o 900 dólares, y según Cnet muchos piensan que Amazon descubrió una necesidad insatisfecha de los consumidores. O tal vez, el peso de la marca y la calidad de servicio a que nos tienen acostumbrados parecen ser una herramienta poderosa de marketing, incluso de una tecnología que ya dábamos por obsoleta.

The Good, Bad, and Ugly

The Good:
The screen is actually pretty nice on this device. This is one of those new style of paper screens that make it much easier to read on than an on your PC, iPhone, or PDA. +1 points.
The Bad:
- Price. $400 is way too much. -1
- The books you buy from Amazon are DRMed. This means that 10 years from now, you will probably not be able to read the books you buy. -1
The Ugly:
- No PDF support which makes it completely useless for most people who would like a device to review documents while traveling. -1
- This does not replace the book. What Amazon does not understand, is that I want something that could replace my *laptop* so I can review work related PDF files without printing them out. I do not want something to replace my paperback novel which is cheaper, more durable, has infinite battery life, and I’ll be able to read 20 years from now. -1
